Our Mission ‘To promote and provide volunteering opportunities and activities in the North West of Ireland for the benefit of individuals and communities.'
North West Volunteer Centre is a project of Churches Voluntary Work, set up in 1983 by the four mainline Churches in Northern Ireland (Roman Catholic, Methodist, Church of Ireland and Presbyterian) to improve training and employment opportunities for people in the local area. We have offices in Derry/Londonderry and Strabane and we are currently funded by the Department for Communities to provide volunteering services in our local area.
Our organisation recognizes the invaluable contribution volunteers make to society and we act as a catalyst to enhance and add value to these efforts. The core aims of our work are to recruit and connect volunteers to organisations, support local groups and communities to maximize the contribution volunteers make and ensure volunteering is recognized as a positive expression of active citizenship.
We are committed to providing a person-centred service delivered by a small dedicated and professional team of staff. At the heart of that is a determination to ensure that volunteering is accessible to all, especially those people who might find it more difficult to volunteer because of their individual circumstances.
Our enthusiastic management committee lead by current Chair, Rev. Phil Houston supports the day-to-day team. Our Board is made up of equal representation from the four mainline Churches in Northern Ireland. The head of each Church locally nominates members to serve on our board and represent their individual denominations.
